BATTERY MANAGEMENT & 240 V INVERTERS
Battery management
All Whitsunday Escape boats rely on a battery bank to run the onboard appliances, such as refrigerators, lights, water pumps, toilets, televisions and anchor winches. The battery banks are only large enough to keep the average boat running without
recharging for about 12 hours. The skipper of the boat needs to monitor the batteries and recharge them as needed. The batteries can be recharged depending on the boat, by the alternators on the engines, solar panels, a generator and a battery charger when plugged into shore power. In most cases you will need to run the boats motor or generator at least 1.5 hours a time, at two intervals a day for a total of 3 hours.
240 V Invertors
Most Whitsunday Escape boats have 240 v inverters as standard equipment, check the boats specification page. If your boat is not fitted with an inverter, you can rent one.
Inverters are useful if you do not have a 12 V plug for you phone charger or to charge camera batteries. The standard size, 300 W will supply enough power to run a small television and DVD player at the same time. No inverters on any of the boats can power a 240 V hair dryer. Leave it behind. Send the good looking crew to the fore deck to 10 minutes and the sea breeze will take care of her hair. Laptops although they draw very little power may not work on the inverters. The electrical signal to start up the inverter may not be sufficient and the sine-wave may not be correct. If you need to use a laptop on the water, bring an inverter with you that is compatible or at the very least check it works before you leave the marina.
