The Whitsundays

The Whitsunday Islands are situated at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef on the north east tropical coast of Queensland, Australia. The islands are approximately 1,100 kilometres north of Brisbane and 700 kilometres south of Cairns.

The Whitsundays share the same latitude as the Fiji Islands and offer tropical weather virtually all year round. There are 74 islands within the Whitsunday group, many of which you can explore on our Interactive Map.

The tropical islands are fringed with coral reefs and white beaches, and feature numerous secure anchorages. The outer Great Barrier Reef provides protection from ocean swells providing calm sailing in the Whitsundays.

Our Heritage - First Nations in the Whitsundays

Within the Whitsuncday Region, there are two First Nations Groups known as the Ngaro and Gia.

The Ngaro People inhabited the Whitsunday Islands and coastal bays whereas the Gia inhabited inland around the area now known as Proserpine.
