What is BareBoating?

Watch our short video and see what bareboating in the Whitsundays is all about!

How Does Bareboating Work?

Bareboating is when you hire a boat, and take it sailing yourself. Also referred to as a ‘skipper yourself’ bareboat charter. It is called “bare” because it is like hiring a car, a caravan or a houseboat. The boat doesn’t come with a skipper or crew, you yourself become the skipper and crew, and you drive the boat yourselves, wherever you want to go!

Choose a Boat

Here in the Whitsundays, we have a big selection of yachts and catamarans, and both sailing and power options for each type of boat. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have sailing experience. You can hire a powerboat and motor around the islands of the Whitsundays. If you are a confident sailor, you can hire a sailing boat, and go wherever you please within our cruising area, which is the largest cruising area of all the bareboat charter companies in the Whitsundays.

Organise Your Crew

The first step is organising your crew. The size of your group will determine which boat you should take. Then you can choose a boat from our large range of options. All of our boats have a number of private cabins, and some have ensuite bathrooms too. It’s a bit like a floating apartment in that respect. Bigger than a caravan, but smaller than an apartment, every boat still has all the creature comforts to make a perfect holiday. If you’ve ever wanted to have a houseboat holiday, this is the Whitsunday equivalent! Getting the largest boat you can within your budget will give you greater space on board for the number of people in your party.

Book Your Travel to Get Here

Once you’ve chosen a vessel for your sailing holiday, it’s time to organise how to get here, and book your flights, or other transport to Airlie Beach.

Pack Your Bags

The boats come fully equipped, from maps and charts, all bed linen and kitchen utensils, to a TV and iPod connectivity. We even include snorkelling equipment for free. The same as you would if you were staying in a serviced apartment, all you need to bring is your clothes, and organise some groceries!

Provisioning

One of the keys to a stress free holiday is a well-stocked boat full of delicious food and drinks. Whitsunday Provisioning provide an online one-stop superstore for all your provisioning needs.
