Why are there no houseboats in the Whitsundays?

Houseboat Hire

You can’t hire a houseboat in the Whitsundays. It’s true! But there are about 130 other boats you can hire here, and we think they’re even better!

You still don’t need a licence, just a little experience. And there are plenty of ways to learn before you get here if you don’t have a lot.

Houseboat hire Whitsunday islands

Houseboats are designed for rivers and inland waterways. They’re big and square, and don’t go very fast. When you are sailing the Whitsundays, you’re actually sailing off the coast, so you need a streamlined power boat, sailing yacht or catamaran suitable for island cruising.

There are over 130 bareboats for hire in the Whitsundays, and they are all designed for cruising the beautiful Whitsunday island waters.

We have small boats and big boats, suitable for 2 – 12 passengers, and there’s something to suit all budgets.
