What is a Bareboat?

Bareboating is when you hire a boat and take it cruising yourself, sometimes referred to as a ‘skipper yourself’ charter. It is called ‘bare’ because it doesn’t come with a skipper or crew as you get to do this yourself, and you drive the boat yourselves, wherever you want to go!

You get the freedom to cruise the Whitsunday Islands at your own pace!

Before you leave you will go through a comprehensive briefing including:

  • The cruising area around the Whitsunday Islands,
  • The operating and safety features of the boat you have hired.

No formal boating qualifications or licences are required to charter with Whitsunday Escape. Some boating knowledge and experience is all it takes!

Where do I go? What do I see?

What do I need?

What Next?

  • Organise your crew

  1. Organising your crew will determine the size of boat you should take for your charter. Ensure you’ll have enough room for everyone by getting the largest boat in your budget!
  2. We know it can be difficult organising dates off with work or school commitments. Enquire early to have the best options available!
  3. Search through the largest bareboat fleet in the Whitsundays and pick a few boats that you think will be suitable for you and your crew!
