Did you know?

You can hire a fully-equipped sailing or power boat to skipper yourself, your family and friends on an adventure around the 74 islands of the Whitsundays.

Whitsunday Escape offers a diverse fleet of boats that all have between two and four cabins, most with ensuites. Whether it’s just two of you, or a group of eight or more, Whitsunday Escape’s friendly reservations team can help you choose the right boat.

Boats are luxurious and come fully equipped with linen, utensils, safety equipment and all creature comforts. All you need to do is organise your food and drinks.

What does a day of bareboating look like?

Wake up in a secluded bay of an uninhabited island. Take your snorkelling gear (provided free of charge) and explore the underwater world before breakfast. Fire up the boat’s BBQ and enjoy bacon and eggs on the back deck. Take a kayak and explore the shoreline. Pore over the maps and decide where to go for the day. Should it be fishing, a visit to famous Whitehaven Beach, a short bushwalk with amazing views? Perhaps a day at Hamilton or Daydream Island with a day spa treatment, a cocktail at the pool bar, followed by a restaurant dinner? The choice is yours.

Do you need a licence?

You do not need formal boating qualifications or a licence, basic boating experience is sufficient, and extra tuition is available for those wanting to learn. A comprehensive briefing is part of the process with daily on-water support by Whitsunday Escape’s experienced staff.

Create memories of a lifetime

An adventure like no other - bareboating will excite all your senses in one of the most serene locations in the world

Do I need a licence?

No! You don’t need a licence or qualification to hire a bareboat

All you need is a little boating and navigation experience and we’ll teach you the rest.

We give every customer a comprehensive boat briefing before we send you out on your own.

You don’t even need to know how to sail

Hire a power boat, or hire a sailing catamaran and just use the built-in engines. All sailing boats have very powerful engines built-in. If you don’t know how to sail, you don’t have to. You’ll get to drive around, enjoying a bareboating holiday exploring the Whitsunday islands under motor.

What if you have no experience, but a good attitude and some common sense?

If you don’t have enough (or any!) experience there are several options:

  • book a Whitsunday Escape guide to sail the boat for you
  • book some extra days of hands-on training with Whitsunday Escape at the start of your holiday to bring you up to speed
  • get some training at home before you arrive for your charter

Bareboating is for everyone!

The Whitsunday Escape fleet has a boat for everyone
