Chalkie The White Whale

‘Chalkie the White Whale’ was born in the Whitsundays in 2011. He created significant interest and Whitsunday Escape ran a competition to find a name.

Chalkie has not been sighted over the last two years however we hope he will return to the Whitsundays one day.

Whales migrate to the calm warm waters to calve during the months of June through to September.

For more information see Whitsunday Whales page or visit Chalkie’s Facebook page.

Nautical Information

The Whitsundays is a Whale Protection Area, which means vessels must stay more than 300m away from the whales.  Whales may choose to approach boats, and if a whale approaches your vessel, you must switch your engines off.
