Why you need a mum-cation

A hot topic in parenting circles right now seems to be the idea of a mum-cation. What is a mum-cation? A holiday for mum, away from the kids and family, where she gets to relax, sleep in, eat whatever she wants, read (!), and generally rediscover who she is and what she likes, without little people demanding all of her attention.

Sound like something you need? In fact, psychologists recommend it! The next question is, how much time away can you swindle? Start small, take a night or two, and see how the family copes without you. Hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

If you’re ready for the big one, a whole week away from the children, let Whitsunday Escape show you the magic of the Whitsundays on a bareboat charter.

Gather your mum friends, organise a week off, and start planning your ultimate mum-cation to the Whitsundays.

Things to do on mum-cation in the Whitsundays

Grab your besties, pack the bubbles, and a few swimsuits and let’s go!

Need a massage? Stop at Hamilton Island and spend a day at the day spa getting pampered. It’s a cheap overnight berthing fee to stay in the marina, and then you have access to all the island’s facilities. You can top off your day with some cocktails at the swim-up bar, and a gourmet restaurant meal in one of the island’s fancy eateries.

Palm Bay on Long Island is a lovely small resort, with a beachfront sunset bar, and a lovely pool. Stop here for (more!) cocktails, and a gourmet wood-fired pizza.

The islands are covered in bushwalks of varying degrees of difficulty. Choose your target, pack some snacks, the bubbles and a picnic rug to enjoy the view from the top and go without any little feet slowing you down.

Here’s a real treat – cook up a meal that YOU love, no need to cater for the kids on a mum-cation!

Why choose Whitsunday Escape for your mum-cation?

Whitsunday Escape has the largest fleet of boats to rent, including the biggest boats with a capacity of up to 12 people. We have lots of boats with 4 to 7 separate beds, so you can even have a bed all to yourself, even in a group! With boats to suit all budgets, and specials on offer throughout the year, Whitsunday Escape would be happy to help you choose the right boat and dates for your mum-cation. Outside of school holidays is when you’ll find the best deals, on boats and on airfares.

You don’t need a licence to hire a bareboat, just a little experience. We will drive you in and out of the marina so you don’t even need any fancy boat parking skills. With a little prior knowledge of sailing, or just general boating (we can even advise you how to get this if you don’t already), and the helpful assistance of our team, anyone can do it!

Making your holiday easy

When you’re on a bareboat, you are responsible for your own meals, it’s part of the intrepid nature of the holiday, there are no crew on board, it’s just you! BUT… if you want to be looked after, you can organise a skipper to do all the sailing/driving/anchoring for you, and a host to prepare all your meals as well. Check out our luxury charter options.

If you’re ok with cooking yourselves, then you can make this easy by ordering a provisioning package from one of our local experts, and why not grab a platter or two for the first night while you’re there. They have delicious seafood, antipasto, cheese, and tropical fruit platters to choose from.
