Whitsunday Escape wins SILVER at Australian Tourism Awards

Australian Tourism Award silver winners 2018 Whitsunday EscapeWe just won SILVER at the Australian Tourism Awards!

What an honour!

Held in Launceston, Tasmania, on Friday 1st March, the 2018 Australian Tourism Awards celebrated the best of each state’s tourism businesses across a wide variety of categories.

As the state winner back in November, Whitsunday Escape represented Queensland in the ‘Unique Accommodation’ category, against an amazing array of businesses from around the country. What a field to be a part of!

Gold went to the sensational Horizontal Hotel at WA’s Horizontal Falls.

Bronze went to the incredible Jamala Wildlife Lodge in the ACT.

Whitsunday Escape last won the Gold Australian Tourism Award for Unique Accommodation in 2013, so it’s an honour to receive the Silver award at the national awards again for 2018.

There were three Whitsunday businesses contesting four categories at the Australian Tourism Awards at the weekend. Red Cat Adventures were awarded Gold for ‘Major Tour and Transport Operator’, and were a finalist in ‘Adventure Tourism’. BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort won Gold for ‘Caravan and Holiday Parks’.

Whitsunday Escape has been awarded 13 Whitsunday Tourism Awards, ten Queensland Tourism Awards and now two Australian Tourism Awards over the past years.

The awards, which showcase the best in outstanding customer service, innovation and ongoing business excellence, were presented in front of 800 industry peers and officials from across Australia. Queensland took home a total of 18 awards, with six gold, eight silver, three bronze, and one family of Australian Tourism Legends.

Daniel Gschwind, chair of the Australian Tourism Awards, congratulated all the winners and finalists from across Australia.

“To reach the finalists stage of the Australian Tourism Awards is a great honour in itself and all finalists should be immensely proud of their efforts,” he said.

Trevor Rees, Whitsunday Escape’s Managing Director, said he was humbled by the event, and praised the staff and boat owners for their commitment to excellence.

“It was only through the tremendous support of our loyal customers that Whitsunday Escape was recognised on Friday. It’s a great honour. We wouldn’t be here without our dedicated staff and investors. We are proud of our passionate team who provide everyone with the most memorable holiday and our loyal boat owners who entrust us with their investments,” he said.

“Whitsunday Escape is very proud to have been awarded Silver at the national level for Unique Accommodation amongst such a high calibre of businesses,” he said.

“The beauty of a bareboat holiday is the uniqueness of the entire experience. You can choose from a variety of boat styles and budgets. We then give you a comprehensive briefing to ensure you are confident with it. You don’t need a licence, just a little boating experience. It is a personally tailored holiday where you get to choose the pace and experiences for each day around the Whitsunday Islands. Every holiday is different, and there really is something for everyone. There’s no other holiday experience quite like it,” Trevor said.
