Communication & Safety in the Whitsundays

The Whitsunday Islands are one of the safest cruising destinations in the world. The team at Whitsunday Escape are passionate about boating and assisting you with the best service and advice, to ensure you have a safe and wonderful holiday.

Your boat briefing is comprehensive and customised to your boating experience. The briefing is included in the charter fee and can be scheduled to start at 8am on your first charter day, allowing you to make the most of your holiday time.

Standard Boat Equipment

You can contact us via radio or phone while on the water. We are available from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week. Additionally we also provide you with after hours contact options. Every morning our Operations team will give you daily weather updates to assist you with choosing the best anchorage for the current conditions.

Your bareboat comes with:

  • a comprehensive First Aid Kit and book
  • a stable rigid inflatable dinghy with its own safety equipment
  • a scientifically proven and government endorsed personal shark deterrent device

On-water Support

Whitsunday Escape owns and maintains a service boat which allows for quick response when necessary.

The 6.5 metre BRIG Navigator rigid inflatable with a 115hp outboard can seat up to six people.

Internet Access

Internet access around the islands will be patchy and depends on the coverage of your service provider. There are some areas where coverage will be better, and other areas where it is non-existent.

There are a few free WIFI hotspots around Airlie Beach:

  • Whitsunday Escape – vicinity of the office
  • Sorrento’s – Abell Point Marina
  • McDonalds – Airlie Beach and Cannonvale
  • Telstra shop – Whitsunday Plaza Shopping Centre

Mobile Phones

Mobile phone reception is normally available on:

  • West side of Hook Island
  • West side of Whitsunday Island
  • Hamilton Island

If you can’t live without your phone don’t forget your charger. All Whitsunday Escape vessels are fitted with:

  • 12v outlet (12 v is the same as your car charger so bring it along)
  • a small 240 v inverter (which is the same as a standard house power point)

In an emergency use 000 or 112 (selects the best reception provider.)
