Best Time to Charter

Hiring a boat and sailing the Whitsunday Islands is a holiday adventure to be enjoyed any time of the year. All year round, the Whitsundays enjoys tropical weather and moderate winds.

To make the most of your bareboat holiday in the Whitsundays, there are certain seasons or months which may be better for meeting your holiday needs.

April to May is our shoulder season where the humidity and heat lessens. A wonderful time for an Easter getaway. Days are often bright and clear and temperatures pleasant.

June to August is why the Whitsundays is known as a sailing “Mecca”. Sailors and visitors come from afar come to enjoy both Airlie Beach Race Week and the Hamilton Island Race Week and the daily on land festivities. This time of year is also perfect for spotting the majestic humpback whales up close, as they migrate through the Whitsundays to birth their young.

September and October is peak season in the Whitsundays. The skies are typically clear, light winds to set your sails and the sun is shining bright.

November to December is a perfect time to beat the school holiday visitors. Often we will experience a change in the winds to be more northerly. Enjoy the warm weather and explore anchorages that are not usually accessible during our South Easterly trade winds.

January to March is the ‘rainy’ season and a great time to secure a bargain holiday! Of course during these months we get some very nice weather. Expect it to be hot and humid with regular showers but very enjoyable on the water, amongst the sea breezes. Regular showers also creates gushing waterfalls and swimming holes to be explored on the islands.
