Whitsunday Escape operates bareboat charters designed for low-impact exploration of the Whitsundays. Protecting the region is at the heart of everything we do; offering customers a breathtaking experience in the Whitsundays without damaging the natural environment.
Our key initiatives;
- Annual beach clean-ups: We run yearly Clean Up Australia island trips, inviting community and staff to remove marine debris and record findings with Tangaroa Blue.
- Operating as a Green Leader; nominated by Ecotourism Australia for holding the Eco certification for over a decade.
- Guest briefings: Every charter includes concise, practical guidance on waste minimisation, responsible anchoring, reef-safe sunscreen and low-impact wildlife viewing.
- Operational measures: Energy-efficient systems on board, waste separation and reduced single-use plastics through on-board amenities.
- Partnerships & community: We joined the Whitsunday Healthy Heart Project, a campaign aimed at decarbonising the Whitsundays tourism sector.
- Whales of the Whitsundays sponsors, a community led project which advocates for Whale protection and responsible for the Whitsundays gaining Whale Heritage Area status.
- Emissions reporting and carbon reduction through Carbon Halo.
How guests can help
- Conserve Water: Use water wisely — take quick showers, turn off taps when not in use, and avoid unnecessary rinsing.
- Limit Energy Use: Switch off lights, fans, and electronics when not needed to reduce energy consumption.
- Respect Marine Life: Avoid touching or disturbing marine animals and coral. Maintain a safe distance and use snorkel gear responsibly.
- Anchor with Care: Use designated moorings to prevent damage to fragile seabeds and habitats.
- Handle Waste Responsibly: Separate recyclables from general waste, and dispose of waste only where permitted. Bring back used batteries, electronics, or other hazardous items for proper disposal.
