Islands & Anchorages

Islands and Anchorages

The tropical islands are fringed with coral reefs and white beaches, and feature numerous secure anchorages. The outer Great Barrier Reef provides protection from ocean swells providing calm sailing in the Whitsundays.

Cruising the Islands

Cruising time between anchorages is, in most cases, less than two hours. The reef and islands all form part of the vast Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and, as such, the sea-life and wildlife are protected, and fishing is restricted in some areas.

Resort & Marina Information

There are numerous island resorts that you can visit while sailing in the Whitsundays. It is best to contact them personally to arrange berths/moorings. Most welcome visiting yachts, offering evening entertainment, dining, and the use of their facilities.

If you are unable to contact the resort, call Whitsunday Escape and we can make a booking on your behalf. During the peak season it is advisable to contact island resorts as early as possible to arrange visits as space is limited.
