Experience marine wildlife up close and personal

Swim straight from the beach to the fringing coral reefs

Take the dinghy and anchor it on the beach or in the water beside your chosen snorkelling spot

If you don't want to get wet, experience the ocean from above

The best snorkelling sites are scattered throughout the North and Eastern anchorages as the visibility is usually better

Snorkelling Tips:

  • For the best coral views, snorkel when the water is 1–2.5 m above the reef.
  • The clearest waters are north and east of Hook and Whitsunday Islands.
  • Choose sheltered bays where you can swim straight from the beach.

Shark Safety Tips:

It is recommend that in order to reduce the risk of a shark bite incident, you do not:

  • swim or snorkel between dusk and dawn,
  • in murky waters, or
  • where fish are being caught or cleaned.
